Comparing yourself to others is holding you back

Comparing yourself with others holds you back because it drains your energy and feeds insecurity. Rather than inspiring you, it is often used as a whip to invalidate your own achievements and abilities.

Why comparison is your enemy

When you measure yourself against somebody else, you are always comparing your doubts and mistakes with the best that person chooses to show. It also exaggerates other people's worth while minimising your own, and ultimately makes you forget your story, your values and your starting point, replacing your desires with other people's expectations.

Keys to breaking the cycle

My advice is this: measure yourself only against yourself. Your only goal should be to surpass your past self, not another person. Celebrate your wins: making lists of your strengths and recognising your small improvements increases satisfaction with your own path. But above all, limit social media: if certain platforms or profiles trigger your anxiety, adjust your feed or reduce the time you spend on them.
