Study tips

A letter to my beginner self

Dear past me,

I know you are about to open that grammar book and that, the first time you heard the subjunctive, you felt as though your brain was going to short-circuit. I am writing to you from the future to give you some advice: breathe and enjoy it!

You will make plenty of funny mistakes and there will be days when you feel you are not making progress, but every forgotten word, every confused "por" and "para", and every failed conjugation is actually a step towards fluency. Do not try to memorise endless vocabulary lists or become obsessed with speaking perfectly from day one. Spanish is not a sprint; it is a marathon of consistency.

Remember:

Native speakers really appreciate the effort, so speak without fearing ridicule.

Listen to music, watch films and read short articles. Learning does not happen only in the classroom, but in the way you live the language every day.

Whenever someone corrects you, do not feel overwhelmed; celebrate it instead. It is the quickest and most effective way for your brain to learn.

Keep practising, be patient with yourself and, above all, enjoy the process of understanding another culture. You will meet incredible people thanks to this language.

Keep going! I promise every bit of effort is worthwhile.
